He emphasizes that the hands-on experience gained through these projects has been invaluable, enabling him to support his family and envision a brighter future for his community. The Gribo-popoli station, part of a series of hydropower projects on the sassandra River, harnesses the river’s abundant flow for renewable energy. Following the completion of the Soubre plant in 2017, PowerChina brought all three generating units at Gribo-Popoli online by November 2024, further expanding the country’s hydropower capacity.
The impact of these projects extends beyond electricity generation, fostering the growth of local expertise. Many Ivorian workers who started at soubre, like Konate, now hold critical positions at Gribo-Popoli as quality inspectors, technicians, and supervisors. Their growing skills are driving a new phase of national infrastructure development, powered by local professionals.
Hou Bing, chief engineer at Gribo-Popoli, noted that the project created approximately 2,000 direct jobs during construction and supported an additional 1,000 jobs in related industries. N’Guessan emphasizes that his Chinese mentors instilled discipline, responsibility, and precision, transforming workers into nation-builders. The project’s role in national development is undeniable.
