Devolution Law: Couffo Department Officer Visits Municipalities

From October 21 to 25, 2024, Christophe H. Mégbédji, the Couffo department officer, embarked on a five-day tour of the six municipalities in his territory. During his visit, he was impressed by the efforts of local elected officials and offered guidance on improving administrative and financial governance to effectively utilize their resources.

Sharing Themes and Advice on Local Development

Throughout his visit, Mégbédji shared valuable insights and advice with local elected officials, district and city leaders on various themes related to local development. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety, children’s education, environmental conservation, and agriculture. Additionally, he stressed the significance of child nutrition, urging parents to understand its vital role in their children’s well-being.

Enhancing Security and Community Development

Mégbédji also addressed the need for real-time information sharing between municipal and local officials and the defense and security forces. This, he believes, will help maintain a safe and secure environment, keeping crime and mistrust at bay. The visit was particularly timely, as local residents, including elected officials, community leaders, and women’s groups, had raised concerns about the inaccessibility of roads, access to clean water, education, electricity, healthcare, and community safety.
