Company executives attribute the origination growth to a larger dealer network, increased sales staffing, and faster contract review and funding speeds. Because the net income growth rate outpaced revenue growth, the company achieved operational leverage during the quarter. The rise in diluted earnings per share also benefited from a reduced share count, with diluted shares falling from 24.05 million to 23.32 million.
Charles E. Bradley, CEO of Consumer Portfolio Services, stated that the growth in loan originations demonstrates the strong operating leverage of the business, adding that the company is increasing loan originations and capturing market share by expanding its dealer network and strengthening relationships with existing dealers while maintaining selective contract purchases.
Revenue Breakdown And Asset Quality Improvements
Interest income drove the revenue gains, rising to $129.08 million from $107.17 million a year earlier. Other revenue more than doubled to $2.83 million compared to $1.26 million. Total operating expenses increased to $121.83 million from $113.91 million, with interest expense accounting for roughly 58 percent of total operating expenses at $70.52 million.
Asset quality metrics improved across the board. The total delinquency rate, which includes repossession inventory, dropped 167 basis points year-over-year to 12.29 percent. Accounts delinquent 31 days or more fell by 92 basis points to 10.20 percent, and the repossession inventory ratio decreased by 75 basis points to 2.09 percent.
Annualized net credit losses dropped 75 basis points to 7.26 percent of the average portfolio. Meanwhile, the net recovery rate on collateral liquidated through wholesale auctions climbed 328 basis points to 32.0 percent.
Borrowing Reliance And Fourth Quarter Estimates
The company expanded its borrowing capacity during the third quarter by renewing a warehouse line of credit and increasing its limit by roughly 52 percent, moving from $335 million to $508 million. It also completed its third asset-backed securitization of the year, representing its 110th securitization and the largest in its 35-year history.

Warehouse credit line balances reached $735.84 million at the end of September, more than double the $324.87 million recorded at the close of last year. Securitization trust liabilities stood at $3.46 billion, total assets reached $4.83 billion, and stockholders’ equity rose to $324.49 million.
Wall Street analysts project full-year 2026 revenue of $481.78 million and earnings of $1.45 per share. Achieving the consensus estimate requires fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $116.15 million and earnings of roughly $0.65 per share, leaving the final quarterly outcome dependent on borrowing costs and credit loss expenses.
