CR7 Makes History: Ronaldo Becomes the First Person to Reach 1 Billion Social Media Followers
Cristiano Ronaldo Sets Record with 1 Billion Social Media Followers
Cristiano Ronaldo, the ‘superstar’ of the soccer world, has made history by becoming the first person to surpass 1 billion followers on social media accounts.
On September 13th, Ronaldo announced through social media platforms, including Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), that the total number of followers exceeded 1 billion. This milestone is the combined number of followers on Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and Chinese social media platforms such as Weibo and Kuaishou.
Major media outlets, including the BBC in the UK, reported that Ronaldo was the first person to reach ‘1 billion followers’. With over 900 goals scored for his club and national team, Ronaldo has also established himself as a top star on social media.
Ronaldo has an impressive following on various social media platforms, with over 639 million followers on Instagram alone, 170 million on Facebook, and 113 million on X. His recent launch of YouTube has been a significant factor in achieving the ‘1 billion follower’ mark. Ronaldo’s YouTube channel ‘UR Cristiano’, launched on August 21st, surpassed 10 million subscribers in less than 12 hours and currently has over 61 million subscribers.
Ronaldo’s popularity on social media far surpasses that of other celebrities, not just in football but also in other fields. Actress and singer Selena Gomez is next with 690 million followers, followed by Ronaldo’s long-time rival Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) with 623 million. Pop stars Justin Bieber (607 million) and Taylor Swift (574 million) also fall short of Ronaldo’s record.
Ronaldo expressed his gratitude and feelings in a post on Instagram and other platforms, saying, “A billion followers, it’s not just a number, it’s a testament to the passion and drive we share, our love for the game and beyond.” He emphasized, “From the streets of Madeira to the world’s biggest stages, I’ve always played for my family and you, and now a billion of us are doing it together.”
“You have been with me every step of the way, through the twists and turns. This journey belongs to all of us, and together we have shown that there are no limits to what we can achieve,” Ronaldo added. “Thank you for believing in me, supporting me, and being a part of my life. The best is yet to come. We will keep working hard, winning, and making history together.”
