Yala Hospital Investigates Doctor for Breach of Contract
The Inspector General of the Ministry of Public Health, Health Region 12, has revealed that Yala Hospital has set up a committee to investigate a doctor who accepted a job at a private hospital while demanding an extra salary of 10,000 baht per month.
Dr. Sawat Apiwajaniwong, Inspector General of the Ministry of Public Health, Health Region 12, stated that the Ministry of Public Health has issued regulations regarding the payment of remuneration to officials working for the service units of the Ministry of Public Health. These regulations specify the criteria, methods, and conditions for the payment of various compensation, including extra compensation for not practicing private medicine or working in a private hospital.
According to the regulations, doctors and dentists who do not practice private medicine and/or work in a private hospital are eligible to receive an extra 10,000 baht per month, while pharmacists are eligible to receive an extra 5,000 baht per month. However, they must submit applications for consideration by the committee, and approval is reviewed at least every 1 year.
Dr. Sawat added that an inquiry committee was appointed on September 10 to investigate the matter, and relevant people will come to investigate on September 17. If the investigation finds that the doctor has breached the contract, they will be required to return the extra money and pay a fine of 2 times the extra money recovered, with interest at the rate of 15% per annum from the month of breach of contract.
