[알파경제=김종효 기자] The National Tax Service has announced a strong response to the rebate problem, which is a hotbed of unfair profits and tax evasion.

The tax investigation, which has now begun in earnest, will focus on three key sectors that are causing adverse effects throughout society, including construction, pharmaceuticals, and insurance brokerage.
These areas have been a persistent problem despite the fact that rebate-taking itself is explicitly prohibited by law, and the investigation aims to eradicate such practices.

The subjects of the investigation were a total of 47 companies, ranging from construction companies that provided rebates to reconstruction associations or construction companies to pharmaceutical companies that provided benefits to medical professionals with prescription authority.
In addition, it also includes insurance brokerage firms that have received rebates for the purpose of avoiding corporate tax and gift tax in the CEO insurance market that has been growing rapidly in recent years.
The National Tax Service emphasized that it will “contribute to maintaining fairness and social order by imposing fair taxes on tax evaders who cause unfair competition and directly affect the lives of citizens.”
Additionally, it was stated that “all violations identified during the investigation will be punished in accordance with relevant laws.”
The National Tax Service expects that this measure will have a long-term preventive effect along with raising awareness of the seriousness of the rebate problem, and it made it clear that it plans to continue active supervision and crackdown activities in the future to create a fair competitive environment and establish a culture of honest tax payment.
