Crane Collapse in Samre Area Causes Injuries to Motorcyclist
A devastating accident occurred in the Samre area when a crane fell and overturned, striking a passing motorcyclist and causing injuries.
Incident Details
On September 12, at 2 pm, Lieutenant Colonel Natthaphong Kanarat, Inspector (Detective) of the Bukkhalo Police Station, received a report of a crane collapse at a subway construction site near the entrance of Soi Taksin 9/3, Somdej Phra Chao Taksin Road (exit), Samre Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok.
Accident Scene and Investigation
Upon arrival, officials found the crane lying on its side within the construction site, with its tip protruding onto the road surface. The injured motorcyclist, Mr. Phitsanu Chamon, 35, sustained injuries to his right knee and left shoulder. He was immediately taken to Samitivej Thonburi Hospital for treatment.
Eyewitness Accounts and Cause of the Accident
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the crane lifting construction materials before it began to swing back and forth, eventually overturning and falling. The crane struck the passing motorcyclist, causing injuries. An initial investigation revealed a hole in the ground that appeared to be a collapse, which may have contributed to the crane’s instability.
Aftermath and Investigation
Officials have dismantled parts of the crane and reopened the area to traffic. The crane operator, a Thai worker, has been arrested and is currently under investigation. Authorities will continue to investigate the cause of the crane collapse and consider filing further charges.
