The 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic officially kicked off on the September 22 episode of WWE NXT on The CW Network, bringing the return of the tournament after a two-year absence. The single-elimination tournament features 14 teams from across WWE and AAA in competition for the iconic trophy, which honors WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. NXT Tag Team Champions Vanity Project and AAA Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno secured first-round byes, while the opening night featured two contested matches.
Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno Advance in Opening Round
The first team to secure their advancement in the tournament was the pairing of Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno, who defeated Los Americanos (Bravo Americano and Rayo Americano) in a hard-fought opening-round match. The match featured heavy momentum shifts as Rayo and Bravo Americano exerted control during key stretches, with Dar spending much of the bout targeting Rayo’s left shoulder in search of a submission. Chaos erupted when all four competitors became involved, culminating in Bravo diving over the top rope to take out both Dar and Moreno on the floor. Los Americanos maintained pressure with hard-hitting attacks, including a German Suplex from Bravo after escaping an Ankle Lock from Dar, followed by a hurricanrana and a splash from Rayo for a near fall.
