Devon adn Cornwall Police Commissioner Alison ⁤Hernandez has issued⁣ an apology after ‍stating that multiple human remains had been discovered during a murder investigation in woodland near ⁣st Austell. The force has since clarified that only⁣ one body has been recovered.

Misinformation Surfaces During Police and Crime Panel Meeting

During a meeting of⁣ the Devon and Cornwall⁤ police and crime⁢ panel, Commissioner Alison Hernandez informed attendees⁤ that “dead⁤ bodies” had been found at ⁤a woodland site ‍in Sticker, near st Austell. She indicated that investigations were ongoing⁣ to determine the ‌exact number of ‍remains discovered.

though, devon and ‍Cornwall Police have as refuted these claims, stating that the remains of only one man have been ⁤recovered from the woods.

Investigation Details ⁢and⁢ Accusations

The woodland has been the scene of extensive inquiries by police and forensic experts following ⁢the‍ discovery of the body of 43-year-old Daniel⁤ Coleman. James Desborough, 39, has been accused of murdering Mr Coleman between june 2 and July 7. He is scheduled to appear before Truro Crown Court next week.

Commissioner’s Apology and Clarification

In her apology,Ms hernandez stated: “In trying to be helpful I responded to an operational question at the police and crime panel, however,I was not fully up ‍to date with the facts of ⁤the⁢ investigation. I apologise for⁢ any alarm this may have⁣ caused. The police have operational primacy over these matters. Any investigation will unfold rapidly and I was not in possession of‌ all the⁣ facts at that⁢ time.”

Police Rejection of Commissioner’s Claims

Detective⁢ Superintendent Jon Bancroft of Devon and Cornwall police addressed the discrepancy, stating: “we currently have three separate murder investigations being conducted in ‍the cornwall area. I have oversight of all ‍of these investigations at this time, and can confirm they are ⁣being carried out independently‌ of ‌each other and are not believed to be linked. I⁤ can⁢ categorically state that we have‌ recovered remains believed to be those of Daniel Coleman only from an area‌ of ‍woodland in Sticker. No other remains have ⁢been located at this scene to⁢ date.”
