Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia in January 2023 after leaving Manchester United. He relocated to Riyadh with his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, and their five children. Ronaldo shared insights about the challenges and adjustments his family faced in a Netflix documentary, Saudi Pro League: Kickoff.

In the documentary, Ronaldo described the initial transition: “In the beginning, everything was not easy. The culture is different. My family is part of me and they always go wherever I go.” He noted that sometimes his children miss Europe, acknowledging the difficulties of adjusting to a new environment.

Ronaldo emphasizes the friendly nature of the Saudi people, stating, “They are people like me who want to give back.” Despite the significant financial benefits, being one of the highest-paid athletes at around £173 million a year, Ronaldo clarified that his move was not solely for money. He stated, “I’m here to win. To win trophies, to make Al Nassr better, to make the Saudi Pro League better, change the culture.”

Georgina Rodriguez also expressed her feelings about the move in her Netflix show, I Am Georgina. She felt relieved about leaving Manchester, stating, “I knew something big was waiting for us and we were highly motivated.” She admitted that adapting to life in Saudi Arabia took time. “It all happened so quickly. At the beginning, I had some ups and downs because we had never lived in a hotel for so long.”

The family initially stayed at the Four Seasons hotel in Riyadh. Ronaldo’s accommodation was luxurious, costing over £250,000. They have since moved into a house but faced challenges during this adjustment period.

Ronaldo and Georgina’s experiences highlight both the excitement and struggles of relocating to a new country and culture. Their commitment to family and the pursuit of success remains strong in their new life in Saudi Arabia.
