Cristina Cordula has shared the details of a defining family tragedy that influenced her personal and professional trajectory. In an interview for the program 50′ Inside on TF1, the Brazilian-French television personality discussed the death of her younger brother, Claudio.

Claudio died at the age of 18 in a car accident in Brazil. The event occurred during the Rio carnival, and Cordula, who was 19 at the time, had lent her car to her brother for an outing with friends. While the other friends survived the crash, Claudio did not.

Cordula described the impact of the loss on her parents as an insurmountable shock. Reflecting on the period, she stated, It was horror, an infinite sadness. This grief later served as a catalyst for her to leave Brazil and relocate to France, driven by a desire to follow her dreams and move past the trauma.

This resilience, developed through personal drama, helped Cordula build a career in France over the course of more than thirty years. She has since become a naturalized citizen of France and a prominent figure in the fashion and television industries, noting that such hardships also help you endure.

Early Life and International Modeling Career

Born Maria Cristina Córdula da Cunha on October 30, 1962, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Cordula grew up in an environment focused on business and the arts. Her father was a company director, and her mother worked as a sociologist before becoming an art critic. She also had an uncle who was a painter.

Early Life and International Modeling Career

To complement her interests, she studied journalism and communication at the Universidade Gama Filho in Brazil. However, her professional path shifted toward fashion early on. Cordula began her modeling career in Brazil at the age of 16, appearing in advertisements and posing for fashion magazines.

Her international career progressed significantly after a hairstylist friend in São Paulo recommended a new haircut. This change led to her being represented by several mannequin agencies, including Zen, Neo, and Delphine. Through these representations, she worked for major fashion houses such as Dior, Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent.

Cordula arrived in Europe in 1985 after being spotted by a Spanish agency. During this period, she continued to parade for high-fashion designers, including the French couturier Marc Bohan.

Television and Entrepreneurship in France

Transitioning from modeling to consultancy, Cordula opened her own firm, Cristina Cordula – Agence de Relooking, in Paris in 2002. This move solidified her expertise as an image consultant and paved the way for her entry into French television.

Her transition to the screen brought her widespread recognition. She has hosted several restyling programs on M6 and Téva, including Nouveau look pour une nouvelle vie, Cousu main, and the successful Les Reines du shopping.

On September 25, 2023, M6 launched Dressing Challenge, another factual entertainment show hosted by Cordula. The program focuses on providing viewers with tips for making fashion choices and promoting eco-responsible consumption by encouraging them to determine which items to keep and which to resell.

According to Mediametrie, the launch of Dressing Challenge recorded 222,000 viewers with a 3.9% audience share, reaching 19.8% in the target group of women over 50. For comparison, the previous launch of Les Reines du shopping in the same time slot achieved 443,000 viewers with a 5.1% audience share between August 22 and October 28, 2022.

Beyond her fashion-centric programming, Cordula has explored other television formats. She participated in the competition Danse avec les stars on TF1, an experience that presented a more sensitive side of her personality to the public, contrasting with the glamorous image for which she is primarily known.

In her personal life, Cordula married Frédéric Cassin in 2017.
