Updated June 24, 2025
Andrew Claridge-Fleming, 57, a Crufts gundog trainer, has admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to animals after three dogs died from heat exhaustion. The incident occured Aug. 3, 2023, at his farm in New Milton, hampshire.
Claridge-Fleming, who runs Gordleton Gundogs with his wife Nicola, left four dogs in crates inside his Land Rover Revelation. He claimed he had left a door and the boot open but returned to find them closed.
The deceased dogs included Milo, a six-month-old Labrador; Bodger, a cocker spaniel; and Rocky, a cockapoo. A fourth dog, also named Rocky, was rushed to a veterinarian and survived.

Claridge-Fleming is a field test secretary for multiple gundog societies and made his Crufts debut last year. The court heard that he had taken the dogs for training before the incident.

Holly Fagan, Claridge-Fleming’s defense attorney, stated that her client was “deeply sorry” for the incident. The prosecution acknowledged they could not disprove his account and were not seeking to disqualify him from keeping animals.
Claridge-fleming said he was unexpectedly called away to drive his wife and children to a relative’s house, and was gone for approximately six hours.
