Yang Jiamin’s Disappointing Loss in the 2024 Hong Kong Badminton Open

Yang Jiamin, my country’s top badminton player, suffered a crushing⁣ defeat ‌on ​Thursday,⁢ September 12, losing ⁤0-2 to Thai player Busanlan⁤ in the women’s singles round of 16 at‍ the 2024 ⁤Hong Kong Badminton Open. Yang Jiamin’s performance ‍was marred by⁣ numerous mistakes,​ ultimately leading to her elimination from the tournament.

Following the ⁤match, ⁢Yang Jiamin expressed her disappointment, stating, “I didn’t ⁣perform ⁤at my ⁣usual level in this game. ⁤I made too many mistakes, couldn’t control​ the ⁣ball, and missed the ball that I should have scored.” Her frustration was‍ palpable ⁣as she reflected on the game.

Yang​ Jiamin and Busanlan‍ had previously met four ⁤times, with each player winning two games. Yang Jiamin’s victories came in the 2019 Asian⁣ Championships and the 2023 Kumamoto Masters, while Busanlan won the ⁣2021 Hero Open ‍final and the 2021 Year-End ‌Finals group stage.​ However, Busanlan’s recent form, including a runner-up finish in the women’s singles at the Japan‍ Open, made her a formidable opponent.

Despite her‌ preparations, Yang Jiamin found herself struggling to⁣ keep up with Busanlan’s pace. In the first⁣ game, Yang Jiamin quickly fell behind ​3-11 but managed to tie the score at 11. ⁢Unfortunately, she lost her momentum and ultimately lost the first game 15-21. The second game saw Yang Jiamin continue to struggle, with​ unforced errors plaguing her⁤ performance and leading to‍ a 12-21 defeat.

Yang Jiamin attributed her ‌poor performance to an unexplained lack of ⁤form, stating, “I played⁢ with a normal mentality, but⁣ I don’t know why I was not in good‍ shape.” Her disappointment was⁢ evident as she reflected on ⁢the match.

In‍ other news, the second round of men’s⁤ and women’s singles saw seeded players advancing ⁢one after another. However, Indonesia’s Masrika, the fourth seed in women’s singles, was eliminated by Thailand’s star Ratchanok, losing 1-2.

Tai Tzu-ying Withdraws Due to Injury

Taiwan’s No. 1 Tai Tzu-ying, the top seed in women’s singles, ⁢was forced‌ to withdraw from ⁣the tournament due⁢ to injury. This marks the second consecutive year that the former ‍world No. 1 has retired due to injury⁢ midway through the Hong Kong Open. Tai Tzu-ying was trailing 2-6 in the first game ‌against Indonesian rising star Putri Kusuma Vardani when ⁣she made the decision to withdraw.
