Al-Ahly Saudi Club Exits Holy Mosques Cup, Al-Ittifaq Advances
Al-Ahly Saudi Club’s struggles continue as they bid farewell to the Holy Mosques Cup competitions in the round of 32 against Al-Jandal, a team from the First Division League. Meanwhile, Al-Ittifaq narrowly escaped elimination.
Under the guidance of German coach Matthias Zeiss, Al-Ahly has been delivering underwhelming results this season. The team currently sits sixth in the Saudi league standings with 7 points.
Al-Ahly found themselves in a difficult situation against Al-Jandal after falling behind 2-0 in the first half. Al-Jandal took the lead with the first goal in the 24th minute, scored by Abdullah Matouq. Yassin Al-Omari added a second goal from the penalty spot in the 30th minute.
Al-Ahly attempted to make a comeback in the second half but were unable to overcome the deficit. Ivan Toni scored a goal in the 82nd minute, but it was not enough to secure a win.
In another match, Al-Adalah came close to pulling off an upset against Al-Ittifaq. However, Al-Ittifaq survived thanks to a brace from Carl Toko Ekambi, who scored in the 78th and 90th + 4th minutes.
