CSKA Sofia manager Hristo Yanev is planning to include right-back David Pastor in the squad for Saturday’s match against Slavia Sofia, kicking off at 5:30 PM local time at the Vasil Levski National Stadium.

The Brazilian defender missed the previous two matches against CSKA 1948 following an incident involving driving under the influence. He was arrested earlier this week and released hours before the cup tie, subsequently receiving a suspended sentence, according to reports from Tema Sport.

Despite the off-field issues, Pastor was included in the matchday squad for last Saturday’s away game against Bistritsa, though he remained an unused substitute. This suggests Yanev is prepared to reintegrate the player into the team, despite the recent controversy.

Ivan Turitsov has started the last two matches at right-back and has been in good form. He is expected to retain his starting position on Saturday, with Pastor likely to feature as a substitute during the second half. This approach allows Yanev to ease Pastor back into competitive action while maintaining a settled defensive lineup.

Pastor joined CSKA Sofia from Portuguese side Farense, where he made 34 appearances and registered four assists last season. His contract with Farense runs until the summer of 2027, meaning CSKA had to pay a transfer fee to secure his services. The 25-year-old has also played for Portimonense and Leixoes in Portugal.

The inclusion of Pastor provides Yanev with additional options at right-back, increasing competition for places within the squad. Turitsov’s recent performances have been commendable, but Pastor’s experience and attacking contributions could prove valuable as CSKA navigate a busy schedule.

CSKA Sofia has also been active in strengthening other areas of the squad. Young defender Teodor Ivanov has been brought in from CSKA 1948, while Martin Sorakov and Alexander Bozhilov have joined the second team. On February 18, 2026, CSKA Sofia announced a contract extension for Alex Tunchev, keeping him with the club until 2029.

The upcoming match against Slavia Sofia is an important fixture for CSKA, as they continue their pursuit of a top spot in the Parva Liga. CSKA is also preparing for a semi-final clash against Ludogorets in the Bulgarian Cup, scheduled to take place on February 18, 2026.

The club’s official website highlights a range of merchandise available, including scarves, gloves, and thermoses, demonstrating a focus on fan engagement and revenue generation. The availability of Martenitsa items – traditional Bulgarian charms symbolizing spring and good health – reflects the cultural significance of the season.

Hristo Yanev’s managerial career has seen him take charge of several Bulgarian clubs, including Minyor Pernik, Neftochimic Burgas, and Pirin Blagoevgrad, as well as a previous spell at CSKA Sofia. He also served as a scout for CSKA Sofia from 2018 to 2020. Prior to his managerial career, Yanev enjoyed a successful playing career as a midfielder, notably spending six years with CSKA Sofia between 2000 and 2006.

The decision to potentially involve Pastor against Slavia Sofia represents a calculated risk by Yanev, balancing the need for squad depth with the importance of maintaining team discipline. The manager will be hoping that Pastor can put the recent incident behind him and contribute positively to CSKA’s ambitions this season.
