Cuba & Alaska: Ukrainian Medics Documentary Premieres at sheffield Doc Fest

“Cuba & Alaska,” a new Java movies documentary directed by yegor Troyanovsky, will premiere at Sheffield Doc Fest. Java Films, a Paris-based documentary sales company, has acquired the world rights to the film, excluding Ukraine, France, Belgium, and Czech TV rights.
The film offers an intimate, sometimes darkly humorous, look at two Ukrainian medics, “Cuba” (Yulia Sidorova) and “Alaska” (Olexandra), serving on the frontlines. Largely shot with phone and GoPro cameras,the documentary provides rare access to their daily lives,highlighting their reliance on each other and the camaraderie essential for survival.
Olha bregman produced the film for 2Brave Productions (Ukraine), along with Christian Popp for Tag Film (France), and Hanne Phlypo for Clin d’Oeil Films (Belgium).
The producers lauded Java Films’ Kathryn Bonnici and Donatien Pierda for their early understanding and passion for the story.They said having a sales agent who understands the human side of the conflict is invaluable in sharing “Cuba & Alaska’s” story globally.
The film’s soundtrack, featuring contemporary Ukrainian artists such as Serhiy Zhadan and a score by Frederik van de Moortel, will be available on Spotify on Friday.
