Bedner Growers,Inc., based in Boynton Beach, Fla., initiated a voluntary recall May 19 of its cucumbers. The recalled produce was sold in Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and West Palm Beach, Fla. Fresh Start Produce Sales distributed the cucumbers to various stores, restaurants, and facilities nationwide from April 29 to May 19.
The FDA warns that the contaminated cucumbers, potentially carrying salmonella, may have been sold individually or in small packages, with or without a Bedner Growers label. Salmonella poses a significant health risk, notably to children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The CDC advises consumers to discard any cucumbers if the source is uncertain and to thoroughly clean and sanitize any surfaces that may have come into contact with the produce. Several major grocery chains have already taken action.
