CUHK Appoints New President: Lo Yuk-ming to Lead the University
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has announced the appointment of Lo Yuk-ming as its new president, effective from January 8 next year. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the recommendation, and Lo Yuk-ming will succeed Duan Chongzhi for a term of five years.
Lo Yuk-ming, the father of “non-invasive prenatal testing” and associate dean of the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK, expressed his deep honor in serving as the ninth president of CUHK. He acknowledged the university’s unique college system and its reputation as a world-renowned comprehensive research university. Lo Yuk-ming thanked the University Council for its support and trust in him and emphasized his commitment to building on the foundation laid by successive presidents to further enhance the university’s strength in research and innovation.
Lo Yuk-ming also highlighted the importance of promoting the humanistic spirit and cultivating students to become “CUHK people” with both ability and political integrity. He looks forward to working closely with the School Council and the governance team to jointly lead CUHK to new heights.
Cha Yat-chiu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of CUHK, expressed his happiness in having Lo Yuk-ming as the new president. He praised Lo Yuk-ming’s outstanding academic achievements and his high status in the world. Cha Yat-chiu believes that Lo Yuk-ming’s rich administrative experience and interpersonal network will effectively promote the development of the university and enhance good governance.
Under Lo Yuk-ming’s leadership, CUHK is expected to achieve considerable development in terms of academics, scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
