Gun Violence and Fire Incidents in Culiacán and Surrounding Areas

On Sunday, November 17, multiple incidents involving gun violence and fires occurred in Culiacán and nearby areas.

Injuries and Arrests

Three people were injured by gunfire. One of the injured individuals is in custody of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena). Additionally, a man was shot in the Las Mañanitas neighborhood of Mazatlán and was taken to a local hospital. While receiving treatment, he was detained. The state prosecutor’s office is investigating this incident.

In Culiacán’s 5 de Febrero neighborhood, another person suffered gunshot wounds and a head injury, likely from a street fight. This victim received care from the Red Cross before being transported to a hospital. Another man was found with a gunshot wound to his foot in the 7 Gotas neighborhood, and authorities are looking into the details of these incidents.

Fires

There were also reports of fires. In Culiacán, a property filled with dry vegetation caught fire, but firefighters could not enter the area because it was closed. They monitored the fire until it was completely extinguished.

Earlier on the same Sunday, a vehicle caught fire in a house in the Valle Alto neighborhood of Culiacán. Firefighters controlled the blaze, which mainly affected the rear and left side of the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Additionally, a house fire occurred on Saturday, November 16, in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood. Firefighters responded and confirmed there were no injuries.

Gunfire Reports

Authorities reported gunfire near a civil hospital and in several neighborhoods in Culiacán and Mazatlán. However, when officials from various government levels investigated, they found no evidence to support these reports.

Neighborhoods mentioned in the gunfire reports included Valle de Ejido, Loma Atravesada, Monte Bello, Adolfo López Mateos, Guadalupe Victoria, Chula Vista, and Gabriel Leyva.
