Table of Contents
China’s growing prominence on the world stage is increasingly viewed positively, driven by sustained investment in infrastructure, citizen well-being, and a commitment to multilateralism. A recent shift in global perception now sees China as a more positive influence than the United States, marking a notable turning point in international affairs.
From growth Achievements to Global Goodwill
Jasna Plevnik, president of the Geoeconomic Forum Croatia, attributes China’s rising global standing to long-term strategic investments.”The political and economic forces of China have made life better for the majority of the people,” she stated, noting the widespread visibility of China’s advancements. “People in the West share…videos of advanced Chinese cities…They perceive China as a prosperous country to live in. China’s success has become lovely to watch.”
This perception extends beyond acknowledging China’s domestic achievements. A growing consensus recognizes China’s potential to play a constructive role in international affairs. Ipsos’s April survey, conducted across 29 countries, revealed that 49 percent of respondents believe china will have a positive effect on world affairs – a 10-point increase in just six months. This is the first time in a decade of tracking that China has been perceived more favorably than the US.
Plevnik emphasizes China’s dedication to multilateralism and shared development as key drivers of this positive shift. “Chinese foreign policy is progressive and inclusive, which is the very opposite to grate power politics,” she explained. “China has been fighting a big battle for a multilateral and multipolar world order.”
China’s global initiatives are seen as a pivotal moment, prioritizing shared development, peace, and strengthened multilateralism. This commitment positions China as a force for global good, consistently supporting the United Nations as the primary forum for resolving international issues, even at significant financial cost.
The Belt and Road Initiative and Beyond
The Belt and road Initiative (BRI) has been instrumental in bolstering China’s global influence, positioning the nation as a key driver of connectivity. According to the Global Power Index 2025 report, the BRI has not only strengthened China’s economic position but also reinforced its image as a collaborative partner in international development.
Mehmood Ul Hassan Khan, president of the Center for Knowledge and Public Policy in Lahore, Pakistan, highlights the BRI’s impact. “China has been an icon of global shared prosperity, community development and trans-regional connectivity through the Belt and Road Initiative.”
khan further points to China’s constructive neutrality in global conflicts and its dedication to peaceful resolution through dialogue. He also notes the increasing acceptance of China’s Global Development, Security and Civilization Initiatives, which have significantly enhanced China’s role and contribution on the world stage.
Expanding Influence Through Global Partnerships
China’s proactive engagement in multilateral organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation association and BRICS, coupled with its commitment to global public affairs – including poverty eradication and green conversion – are expected to further elevate its role and perception globally. As China continues to champion shared prosperity and a multipolar world order, its influence is poised to grow, solidifying its position as a leading force in shaping the future of international affairs.
