DUCHY OF LAUENBURG, Germany (AP) — The Duchy of Lauenburg is gearing up for its 20th annual Cultural Summer festival, coinciding with the 125th anniversary of the elbe-Lübeck Canal. Organizers are finalizing preparations for the event, wich promises a diverse program of arts, music, and performances centered around the historic waterway.
“Artists, freelancers, and performers have developed creative and unusual ideas inspired by the element of water and this historical canal,” said Klaus Schlie, President of the Herzogtum Lauenburg Foundation. Schlie,along with Vice President Barbara Kliesch and organizer Felizitas Schleifenbaum,aims to present 125 events under the banner “The Famous Hut.”
Festival Kick-Off and Program Details
The festival will commence in Siebenichen on Saturday, June 28, with an opening festivity starting at 11 a.m. Attendees can plan their itineraries using the festival’s program,known as the “Travel Companion,” according to Kliesch.
“Interested parties can plan their very own cultural and adventure trip through the data in our program, the ‘travel companion’ or pick out special appointments,” kliesch said. She also noted her personal interest in using the booklet to plan a cycling route to visit open studios and events.
The “Travel Companion” will be available at branches of the Kreissparkasse Herzogtum Lauenburg, a primary sponsor of the event, as well as at the Duchy of Lauenburg offices, tourist information centers, and museums. Information is also available online.
Stefan Kram, a board member of Kreissparkasse Duchy of Lauenburg, emphasized the bank’s support for the festival. “Of course we are very pleased that our financial support for the cultural summer contributes significantly to realize fantastic experiences!” Kram said.

The opening events will highlight the “voice” as the instrument of the year, featuring a large choir festival in Siebenichen. An exhibition of children’s art inspired by the canal will also open at the ferry pier. Participating schools have created artwork reflecting their perspectives on the waterway, nature, and the importance of water. The children’s artwork will also be displayed in Mölln, south of the Vorkamp car bridge on the sewer hiking trail. Both exhibitions will run until july 25.

Knut Winkmann, director, author, and artistic director of “Jung Plus X” at the Theatre Lübeck, will present a musical boat trip titled “Klabauterklön and Wasserwesen.” Winkmann described the event as a journey along the shores of Mölln, filled with sailor’s tales and shanties.

“Sail along the picturesque shores and special angles Möllns, dive into silent water and listen to the sailor’s yarn that is diligently spun!” Winkmann said. The premiere is scheduled for July 19 on the ‘Lütten Damper’ of Morgenroth, with four opportunities to attend.

Schwarzenbek will host the forum Junge Kunst for the third time, showcasing works by young artists in a self-designed exhibition.the exhibition will be held at the district judge house, opening on June 28.
