Culture Creators Brunch Celebrates Black Excellence in Los Angeles

Los Angeles served as the backdrop for the 9th Annual Culture Creators Brunch, a gathering that celebrated the impact and legacy of Black leaders and innovators. Held june 7 at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel,the event recognized individuals shaping culture across various fields.

Founded in 2016 by Joi Brown,the Culture Creators Brunch has become a prominent platform for honoring contributions to Black culture. los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass highlighted the city’s role as a hub for Black creativity during the event’s opening. Musical performances by MAJOR. and Alex Isley, with DJ Aktive providing the soundtrack, added to the celebratory atmosphere. Journalist Mimi Brown also presented her docuseries, To Altadena, With Love, recognizing families affected by the Eaton fires.
The brunch culminated in awards recognizing outstanding achievements. larry Wilmore received the ICON Award for his work elevating Black voices in television and comedy. Keke Palmer was honored with the INNOVATOR Award for her genre-defying career. Kandi Burruss accepted the TRAILBLAZER Award for her success as a hitmaker and business leader. Joy-Ann Reid received the MEDIA Award for her journalism and political analysis.

Tina Davis was recognized with the MUSIC Award for her career in music management. Kimberly A. Blackwell received the BUSINESS Award as an influential Black executive. Tasha Smith was honored with the TV/FILM Award for her contributions to authentic Black narratives. Andra Day presented Smith’s award, acknowledging her mentorship.
