Anysphere Raises $900M for AI Coding Assistant Cursor
Anysphere, the developer of the AI coding assistant Cursor, has successfully raised $900 million in a funding round that values the company at $9.9 billion. Thrive Capital led the round, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and DST Global.
This latest funding marks Anysphere’s third capital raise in under a year. Late last year, the company secured $100 million at a $2.5 billion valuation.
Cursor, an AI coding assistant, has become a popular tool for developers. Anysphere’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) has been doubling roughly every two months. The company’s ARR has surpassed $500 million, a 60% increase from mid-April.
Cursor offers tiered pricing for developers, including a two-week free trial. After the trial, users can choose between a $20 pro subscription or a $40 monthly business subscription.
While individual user subscriptions initially drove revenue, Anysphere now offers enterprise licenses, enabling companies to purchase the AI tool for their teams at a higher price.
Earlier this year, Anysphere declined acquisition offers from OpenAI and other potential buyers. OpenAI instead acquired Windsurf, another AI assistant, for a reported $3 billion.
