French cyclist Ronan Augé has awakened from his medically induced coma following a severe crash during the sixth stage of the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia, according to updates issued by his team, Unibet Rose Rockets. The 22-year-old sprinter, who is the son of former professional cyclist Stéphane Augé, sustained serious injuries during the crash, which occurred early in the day outside the view of television cameras.
Following the accident, Augé was transported to a hospital in Malaysia, where doctors initially kept him in an artificial coma to optimize his treatment and recovery. His team reported that his condition remained stable and non-life-threatening throughout the ordeal. On Saturday morning, the 22-year-old rider successfully woke up from the coma.

Augé Wins First Professional Race This Season
Augé is competing in his first season for the French-Dutch ProTeam after transferring from CIC-U Nantes earlier this year. Earlier in the season, he secured his first professional victory during La Route d’Occitanie in June. During the ongoing Tour de Langkawi, he previously finished fourth twice in the opening stages before the crash occurred in stage six. Another rider, Owen Geleijn, also ended up in a Malaysian hospital earlier in the week.

Despite the positive updates regarding his neurological responses and stable condition, the team has not yet released specific details regarding the exact nature of the injuries Augé sustained during the high-speed incident.
