A Fresh Take on the Isekai genre

The manga Scum of the Brave (勇者のくせに腹黒い) has cultivated a dedicated following with its deliberately cynical portrayal of heroes. Rather than presenting idealized protagonists, the series focuses on flawed individuals grappling with their weaknesses and internal contradictions. The anime series will be directed by Shinji Ushiro, known for his work on Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, at the studio OLM (Pokemon, Yokai Watch). Yoichi Kato (Blame!,Space Dandy) will handle scriptwriting and supervision. Character design will be led by Rika Murakami, and the musical score will be composed by Kenichiro Suehiro, recognized for his atmospheric compositions in series like Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World and Golden Kamuy.

Scum of the Brave deliberately subverts these expectations, offering a more cynical and realistic take on the genre.
