Czech Women’s Soccer Coach Steps Down after Playoff defeat
Prague, Czech Republic – After a heartbreaking loss to Portugal in the Women’s Euro qualifying playoffs, head coach Karel Rada announced his resignation after eight years at the helm of the Czech national team.
The Czech Republic fell 2-1 to Portugal in the second leg of the playoff in Teplice on Tuesday, ending their hopes of reaching their first-ever major tournament. The aggregate score was 3-2 in favor of Portugal after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
“I don’t plan to continue,” Rada said. “My contract runs until the end of December, but I won’t be extending it. I think it’s time for a change.”
Rada, who took over the team in february 2017, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments during his tenure. ”It’s been an amazing journey with the team.The girls have done a fantastic job, but now it’s time to pass the baton to someone else. I believe the Czech team will continue to grow and eventually qualify for a major tournament,” he added.
