Nashville, TN – Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has announced David J. “D.J.” Kennedy, MD, as the new chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). Kennedy, currently a clinical associate professor and residency program director in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University’s Department of Orthopaedics, will assume his new role on April 1st.

NewsDirect: Dr. Kennedy, congratulations on your new appointment as Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at vanderbilt University Medical Center. What excites you most about this chance?
Dr. Kennedy: Thank you. I’m honored to join such a respected institution and lead a department with such a strong reputation for clinical excellence and innovative research. I’m especially excited about the opportunity to work alongside the talented faculty, staff, and trainees at VUMC to continue advancing the field of PM&R and improving the lives of our patients.

Dr. Kennedy: My experience at Stanford has been invaluable. Developing and leading a residency program has taught me the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and creating a supportive learning surroundings. I believe these principles are essential for fostering growth and success within any department,and I’m committed to applying them at VUMC.

Dr. Kennedy: My vision for the department is to further solidify its position as a national leader in PM&R.I plan to achieve this by:
