Medellín Community outraged as Child Battles for life After Alleged Abuse
Medellín, Colombia – A four-year-old boy is fighting for his life in teh intensive care unit of the General Hospital after allegedly suffering severe abuse at the hands of Cristian Alexis González Gallego, known as “Lamp.” The case has ignited outrage in the Castilla neighborhood of Medellín, where neighbors claim the child had been subjected to ongoing aggression for months.
Rafael Adrián Botía, the boyS father, revealed that he had been increasingly isolated from his son as his ex-partner began a relationship with González Gallego, who is allegedly a member of the Los Mondongueros criminal group. “I didn’t know anything about my son, and his current partner forbade him to have or could see my baby,” Botía said, explaining that the situation had escalated over the past few months. While acknowledging that the end of his relationship with the child’s mother was difficult, Botía emphasized his desire to remain involved in his son’s life. Now, he is pleading for justice as his son struggles to recover from his injuries. “The truth [is I am] very outraged by what happened. I have tried to handle things in the best way, always first asking God to do justice,” Botía stated.
Neighbors reported that the child’s suffering had been evident for some time, with frequent crying heard coming from the home. “the child’s mother went to live with this character to the house; he begins to hear verbal, physical, the child crying all the time,” one neighbor said, adding that they had reported their concerns to the authorities, but their pleas were allegedly ignored.
The incident that led to the child’s critical condition reportedly occurred after he woke up and began to play, despite being told to stay asleep. Neighbors described a pattern of violent reactions from González Gallego, “If he cried, it was a blow; if he played with the ball, it was a blow. He used such words against the child: that spoiled, why you are crying, you are a man. He did it every time he hit him,” they recounted.
González Gallego has been taken into custody and is expected to face charges related to the abuse, as well as potential charges related to his alleged involvement with the Los Mondongueros criminal group. Authorities took him into custody after he reported receiving constant threats following the violent incident. The community now awaits further developments in the case, hoping for justice for the young victim.
