The incident occurred around 7:52 PM local time, sending shockwaves through the community. Ramadan Ibrahim, a survivor of the accident, recounted a chilling tale to Masrawi news. He and a friend arrived at the parking lot and witnessed three women boarding the microbus.
“the women got off the microbus after the driver demanded more than the scheduled fare,” Ibrahim stated. “They took another vehicle, which thankfully saved them from the tragedy.”
Emergency responders, including Assiut’s Civil Protection and River Rescue forces, rushed to the scene. the microbus, bearing license plate number 6252 YSG, was recovered from the canal, along with the body of one passenger.
Frantic Search for Survivors
A team of 25 divers from the River Rescue Force is tirelessly searching for the six missing individuals. Eyewitnesses reported that four people, including two female students, managed to escape the vehicle before it plunged into the water.
Major General Wael Nasser, Director of Assiut Security, confirmed the incident and the ongoing rescue efforts. He stated that the driver of the microbus has been taken into custody and referred to the public prosecution for investigation.
