Dale Earnhardt Jr. Takes Friendly Jab at Brad Keselowski After Lions’ Playoff Loss

NASCAR Xfinity team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. couldn’t resist a lighthearted dig at fellow driver Brad Keselowski following the Detroit Lions’ crushing 45-31 playoff defeat to the Washington Commanders.

Entering the game as favorites, the Lions struggled with turnovers while the Commanders, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, played a nearly flawless game. The loss dashed Detroit’s hopes of advancing to the NFC Championship, a milestone the Commanders will now reach for the first time in decades.

Earnhardt Jr., known for his quick wit, took to social media to tease Keselowski, a devoted Lions fan and 2012 NASCAR Cup Series champion.

"Somebody check on @keselowski," Earnhardt Jr. wrote on X.

Keselowski, a Michigan native, has been vocal about his support for the Lions throughout the season. Earlier this month, he attended a game between the Lions and the Minnesota Vikings with his older brother Brian, sharing his optimism for the team’s playoff run.

"Had a great time last night in Detroit," Keselowski wrote. "What an atmosphere. They really know how to get a crowd going for the big games. Can’t wait to see where we go in the playoffs. 1 seed, offense is so good, and defense played great last night. Possible some of our injured guys come back too."

While Keselowski’s NFL dreams were sidelined, his focus will soon shift back to racing. He is set to return to the NASCAR Cup Series this year in the No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for his team, RFK Racing.

Meanwhile, Earnhardt Jr. is gearing up for a milestone of his own. His JR Motorsports team will make its Cup Series debut at the Daytona 500 in February, fielding reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier in the No. 40 Chevrolet. The car will feature sponsorships from Buffalo Trace Distillery and Traveller Whiskey, with 10-time Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Stapleton also involved.

"And I think too, it’s Justin and him coming off the championship and this feeling still like an extended celebration of that," Earnhardt Jr. said. "It’s Traveller’s first experience and allowing them to have a little skin in the game in terms of they were involved, they were very particular about the design of the car, and we all compromised a bit. Them having this number they identify with is I think fair and important."

Founded in 2005, JR Motorsports has become a powerhouse in the Xfinity Series, securing four driver championships and one owner championship. However, the team does not currently hold a charter, meaning it will compete for one of four open spots at the 2025 Daytona 500.

As the racing season approaches, Earnhardt Jr.’s playful jab at Keselowski serves as a reminder of the camaraderie and lighthearted rivalry that fuels both NASCAR and sports fandom.

Here’s to next season and the hope that the Lions, and their devoted supporters, will rise again.
