Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, 25, has been cleared to return to the NFL after ⁢suffering cardiac arrest during a game in January.Hamlin revealed Tuesday that the incident was caused by commotio cordis, ​a disruption of⁤ the​ heart’s electrical charge due ‌to‍ a‍ blow to the chest.

The near-fatal event occurred during the first​ quarter of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals when Hamlin made a tackle and appeared to be struck in the chest ​by a helmet. He collapsed on the field and⁤ was resuscitated.

Hamlin has been participating in voluntary offseason workouts at the Bills’ practise facility in Orchard Park, N.Y.⁣ Bills General Manager Brandon ⁣Beane confirmed that Hamlin is “fully cleared” and present with the team.
