Damson Idris on “F1” Role and Early Brad Pitt Encounter

Before landing a role alongside Brad pitt in the upcoming “F1” movie, Damson Idris had a brief, unnoticed encounter with the Hollywood star.Years before achieving fame in “Snowfall,” Idris worked as an usher at London’s Lyceum Theater.
Idris recounted seeing Pitt attend a performance of “the Lion King.” Working in the back of the theater that day, Idris only caught a glimpse of Pitt as he departed. “I just saw blond hair, cowboy boots and some blue jeans,” Idris said.
In “F1,” Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a mentor to Joshua Pearce, a rookie driver played by Idris.The British actor sees the opportunity to work with Pitt, director Joseph Kosinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer as a major career milestone. He emphasized the importance of his role in a film of this scale.
“You rarely see people like myself on platforms of this size,” Idris said. “To go toe to toe on a movie of this magnitude, more doors will be broken down.”
What’s next
“F1,” featuring Idris in a prominent role, is scheduled to hit theaters June 25. The film promises high-octane action and a compelling story of mentorship in the world of Formula One racing.
