D’Angelo Withdraws From Roots Picnic; Maxwell​ to Replace

Fans anticipating D’Angelo’s⁤ performance at the⁤ annual⁢ Roots Picnic in Philadelphia will have to​ wait.⁤ The R&B artist has pulled ‌out of the festival,scheduled for May 31-June 1,citing a longer-than-expected​ recovery from surgery. Maxwell⁣ will take his‍ place at the Mann Center ⁢in ⁤Philadelphia.

D’Angelo shared ⁢his disappointment on Instagram, explaining that medical specialists advised‌ against ​performing due​ to potential complications. He expressed ⁤regret at missing the​ chance to ​play ‌with The Roots and connect with his fans.

“Due to⁤ an unforeseen medical delay regarding surgery‌ I had ⁢earlier ‍this year,⁢ I’ve been advised by my team of specialist[s] that the ⁣performance this weekend could further complicate matters,” D’Angelo wrote. ⁢“It is indeed nearly impossible to ‌express how disappointed I am not to be ⁢able to‍ play with my brothers the Roots. And even more disappointed not to see all of you.”

He also thanked ‍his fans ‌for their continued support, adding, “I’m currently in⁣ the lab and I can’t wait to serve up what’s in​ the pot.” This news impacts the⁣ Roots Picnic, a popular music festival, but organizers​ are confident Maxwell will deliver a memorable performance.
