The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has extended its initial public offering by two weeks to October 27, 2026, giving investors across the African continent more time to participate in what is set to be Africa’s largest share sale, Reuters reported. The offering aims to raise up to $2.1 billion to fund the expansion of the Lagos-based refining complex.
Initially launched on September 14, 2026, and previously scheduled to close on October 13, 2026, the share sale received approval for the extension from Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Reuters. The additional time is intended to accommodate robust retail demand and support cross-border market access initiatives.
Expansion Plans and Capacity Targets
The $2.1 billion IPO is designed to finance an ambitious expansion of the Lagos facility.
Richmond Bassey, chief executive of Nigerian financial technology platform Bamboo, told Reuters that retail demand behaved like a tsunami rather than a wave, noting a 350% surge in new accounts in the week before the IPO opened.
Cross-Border Access and Regional Allotments
Uganda’s Capital Markets Authority approved the promotion and distribution of the refinery’s securities to local investors, while Kenya and Botswana have also opened their markets to the offering through global depositary receipts.

Regulatory Requirements and Market Fragmentation
Reuters noted that the share sale was not registered as a public offering outside Nigeria, requiring investors in other jurisdictions to rely on local regulations or gain access through a limited number of eligible online investment platforms. The company stated that the 10-day extension would allow prospective investors to complete account-opening procedures, identity verification checks, and other regulatory requirements necessary to participate in the offer.
The mismatch between Dangote’s pan-African ambitions and the uneven take-up beyond Nigeria highlights how fragmented capital markets continue to hinder cross-border investment across the continent, according to Reuters reporting.
Allotment and Trading Schedule
The application period now runs through October 27, 2026. Business Daily reported that the allotment of units in the offer will take place on November 11, 2026, with settlement running from November 12 to December 2, 2026. Global depositary receipts will be admitted and start trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange on December 8, 2026.
