DARA Wins 70th Eurovision Song Contest with Bangaranga 516 Points for Bulgaria

DARA has secured Bulgaria’s first-ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, winning the 70th edition of the competition held in Vienna, Austria. Performing her high-energy electronic anthem Bangaranga, the singer earned a total of 516 points to claim the top spot during the Grand Final on May 17, 2026.

The victory took place at the Wiener Stadthalle, where DARA competed alongside 24 other finalists. Her performance, which blended contemporary electronic elements with Bulgarian folk influences, was characterized by intense choreography and commanding stage presence, contributing to a viral live performance that resonated with both juries, and viewers.

Competition Results and Voting Breakdown

The final results were determined through a combined voting system involving national juries and viewers across 35 participating countries. Following Bulgaria’s win, Israel secured second place, while Romania finished in third. Australia rounded out the top four with a performance by Delta Goodrem.

Delta Goodrem’s entry, a power ballad titled Eclipse, was noted for its cinematic staging. The production transformed the Wiener Stadthalle from a moonlit dreamscape into a radiant gold sunscape to reflect the song’s themes of transformation. Goodrem’s performance represented Australia’s strongest result in the contest in several years and featured a custom couture gown by Velani By Nicky and House of Emmanuele, which was adorned with more than 7,000 Swarovski crystals.

The Meaning Behind Bangaranga

The winning song, Bangaranga, features a title derived from Jamaican Patois slang, where the term translates to riot. DARA described the song as an expression of internal energy and a call to lead through positive emotions rather than fear.

DARA, born Darina Yotova, is a 27-year-old singer from the Black Sea port city of Varna, Bulgaria. Her musical background is rooted in traditional Bulgarian folklore, a genre she began studying at the age of seven. After graduating from the National School of Arts, she transitioned her focus toward contemporary pop music.

She first gained significant public recognition in Bulgaria through her participation in X Factor Bulgaria in 2015. Her success at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest marks a major milestone for both her career and the Bulgarian music industry.
