Darrell Sheets, the longtime star of A&E’s reality series “Storage Wars” known to fans as “The Gambler,” has died at the age of 67. His body was discovered at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, around 2 a.m., according to the Lake Havasu City Police Department.

Authorities confirmed that Sheets died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject who suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The male was pronounced deceased on scene, and the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to assume the investigation.

The body was ultimately turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation. His death remains under investigation, with the department encouraging anyone with information to contact them at (928) 855-1171.

Sheets was born in California in 1958 and rose to fame through “Storage Wars,” which premiered in 2010 and followed buyers competing to obtain valuable contents from abandoned storage lockers in Southern California. He earned the nickname “The Gambler” due to his appetite for high-risk purchases during auctions.

Over the course of the series, Sheets appeared in 163 episodes of “Storage Wars.” He was known for appearing alongside his son, Brandon, and became a beloved figure on the show for his personality and success in uncovering rare treasures.

According to A&E, which aired “Storage Wars” for over 17 seasons, the network issued a statement expressing sorrow over his passing: “We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Sheets had only sporadically appeared in the latest seasons of the show after revealing he suffered a heart attack in 2019. Upon leaving the storage auction industry, he moved to Arizona and owned an antiques store in Lake Havasu City.

He had a deep passion for the trade, loving “the high” of storage auctions for 32 years, according to a bio on the “Storage Wars” website. His death marks the loss of one of the show’s original and most recognizable cast members.

News of his passing prompted reactions from fellow cast members, including René Nezhoda, who spoke publicly about the loss of his costar. Nezhoda expressed his sadness and shared memories of their time working together on the series.

Details about Sheets’ personal life, including his family, have drawn public interest following his death. He was married and had children and a granddaughter, though further specifics about his immediate family have not been disclosed in verified reports.
