Palembang Man Arrested in Student Assault Case
Palembang, LA – A man identified as Fadillah, alias Datuk, has been arrested and charged in connection with the assault of a University of Sriwijaya (Unsri) student. Datuk surrendered to the South Sumatra Police Criminal Inquiry directorate (Ditreskrimum) on Friday evening, December 13th.
“It’s true, the suspect FD (Datuk) has been named a suspect since last night,” said Ditreskrimum Director Kombes Anwar Reksowidjojo during a press conference on Saturday, December 14th.
The arrest follows a report filed by Muhammad Luthfi Hadyhan, a 22-year-old Unsri medical student, who alleged he was assaulted by Datuk on Tuesday, December 10th.
Datuk,accompanied by his lawyer and family,surrendered to authorities around 10:30 AM on Friday. Following questioning by the Subdirectorate III of Ditreskrimum, he was formally charged.
Datuk’s lawyer, Titis Rachmawati, previously stated that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding regarding the scheduling of a student orientation program.”This was actually a minor issue about the scheduling of the orientation program for medical students at Unsri. It truly seems there was a miscommunication,” Rachmawati explained.
She emphasized that Datuk is willing to take duty for the victim’s medical expenses and intends to communicate with the victim’s family and the university to resolve the situation amicably.
“We will facilitate mediation and cover the victim’s medical expenses. We will also communicate with the university to ensure this issue doesn’t escalate beyond its original context,” Rachmawati said.
