Jake Stewart of israel Premier-Tech seized a surprising victory Thursday in Stage 5 of the Critérium du Dauphiné, outsprinting Jonathan Milan after a high-speed stage. The Dauphiné criterium stage was marked by a late crash involving race leader Remco Evenepoel, who sustained minor injuries but remained in the overall lead.
evenepoel’s crash occurred within the final kilometer, a designated “safe zone,” meaning he did not lose any time. Despite the fall, Evenepoel downplayed the incident. He attributed the crash to a possible slip due to sweaty hands. “Its nothing huge, the injuries are not bad,” Evenepoel said.

Stewart described his win as the biggest of his career, aside from the Tour de France.”This whole year feels like it’s been a breakthrough for me…The team has supported me really well,” Stewart said. He added that he anticipated Milan’s sprint and launched his own attack early.

Lidl-Trek dedicated significant effort to positioning Milan for the sprint, controlling the peloton for much of the stage. However, Stewart’s late surge disrupted their plans. Earlier, Pascal Ackermann crashed, forcing Israel-premier Tech to switch to their “Plan B,” which proved triumphant.
A breakaway group of five riders was kept on a tight leash throughout the stage, never gaining more than 90 seconds. The sprinters’ teams ensured the stage would culminate in a bunch sprint. Harold tejada abandoned the race after a crash.
