Davao Cadaver Airlift: DNA Samples Retrieved by NBI

NBI Collects DNA Samples in Search for Missing M/Bca Amejara Passengers

DAVAO CITY – A forensics team‌ from the National Bureau of Inquiry (NBI)-Davao began collecting DNA samples Sunday from five bodies recovered following the sinking of the M/Bca amejara.The samples will be compared to those of‍ relatives to aid ⁤in identification.

The bodies arrived at the Tactical Operations Group in Davao City ⁣at ‍8:45 a.m.⁢ after being airlifted from⁣ Balut Island. They where then transported to St. Peter Chapels in Panacan, arriving at 9:09 a.m., according to a report from MindaNews.

The M/Bca Amejara carried 15 passengers and crew.One person was rescued Tuesday, and five bodies were recovered Saturday. Nine individuals remain unaccounted for ⁢as of January 25, 2026.
