David Beckham, the former England football captain and ‍global icon, has received a knighthood for his services ‌to sport ⁢and charity.‍ The honor, bestowed on⁣ Friday, also recognized The Who’s⁣ Roger Daltrey and⁣ actor Gary Oldman.

Beckham,‍ who‌ played 115 times‌ for England and​ starred‌ for clubs ⁤like Manchester United​ and Real ⁣Madrid, will now ⁣be addressed as “Sir David.” His wife, Victoria Beckham, formerly of the Spice Girls, will be ⁣known as Lady Beckham. The knighthood highlights Beckham’s notable role in sports and his charitable endeavors.

Beckham, 50, was previously appointed an Officer of the Order of⁤ the British Empire (OBE) in 2003.Victoria Beckham later received⁣ the same ⁢honor for⁢ her contributions to the ‌fashion industry.
