David McRedmond’s Legacy: Transforming Eir and Leading An Post
David McRedmond is the chief executive of An Post. He extended his contract with the state agency for three more years last autumn. McRedmond also chairs Eir, a position he has held since 2018. He previously served as the chief executive of TV3 and was the commercial director for Eir, then known as Eircom.
This year, McRedmond led the Dublin Taskforce, which the Government established in May. The taskforce proposed ten initiatives to improve Dublin’s safety and attractiveness. Recommendations included revitalizing O’Connell Street and redeveloping the General Post Office into a significant public space. The plan also called for a dedicated waste management strategy, which would eliminate the use of plastic bags for waste.
McRedmond expressed satisfaction with Eir’s progress under NJJ Telecom Europe, stating that the company transformed Ireland’s broadband landscape. His tenure saw a significant capital investment of €1.6 billion in infrastructure. This included building Ireland’s largest high-speed broadband network, reaching 1.3 million homes and businesses, and creating the largest 5G mobile network.
