David Tennant, known for his roles in Doctor Who and Jessica Jones, revealed he had hoped to play Reed richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though, the role ultimately went to Pedro Pascal.
Speaking at MCM Comic Con in London, Tennant said he had his eye on the superhero role. Despite missing out, he expressed his support for Pascal’s casting. A fan had asked Tennant which superhero or villain role he would have liked to play, nonetheless of prior casting decisions.
Tennant acknowledged that while another prospect to play Reed Richards might potentially be a while off, he thinks “Pedro Pascal is great.” He previously played the villain kilgrave in the series Jessica Jones, alongside Krysten Ritter.
The character of Reed richards has appeared in several films, including the 2005 film Fantastic Four. Pascal will debut as Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First steps, slated for release this year, as well as in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
Alongside Pascal, the new Fantastic Four will include Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, ebon Moss-bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm.
tennant is currently filming the second season of Disney+’s Rivals,based on Jilly Cooper’s novel.
“in terms of superheroes, I don’t know, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they’ve gone in a different direction,” Tennant said.
