David Webb, a British corporate governance activist in Hong Kong, has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). The honor recognizes his nearly 30 years of contributions to raising standards of corporate economic governance in the city.
Webb, a former investment banker, shared his delight on his webb-site platform, noting the United Kingdom government’s interest in Hong Kong affairs. He said the appointment acknowledged his efforts over the past 27 years.
His name appeared on the King’s birthday honors list, published in the U.K., citing his services to corporate economic governance in Hong Kong.
“I am of course delighted… What matters to me most though is how my work is perceived by the people of Hong Kong and beyond, and I’ve been deeply touched by their many tributes over the last few months as I began to withdraw from public life and prepare for my final battle,” Webb said.
Webb also emphasized the importance of the honor to his family, who have supported him throughout his career.He concluded his message with “carpe diem” and its Cantonese equivalent, urging people to seize the day.
