Chinese Men’s Tennis Team Falls Short in Davis Cup World Group II Competition
The Chinese men’s tennis team, comprising Buyun Chaoket, Sun Fajing, Zhou Yi, Tergele, and Wang Aoran, suffered a 2-3 defeat to top-seeded Romania in the 2024 Davis Cup World Group II competition held in Craiova, Romania, from September 13 to 14.
The team’s young players, Buyunchaoket and Zhou Yi, took to the court on the first day, competing in singles matches. Buyunchaoket lost to Krechu in a closely contested match, with a score of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-7 (4). Meanwhile, Zhou Yi fell to Boytan, with a score of 6-7 (4) and 2-6. By the end of the first day, the Chinese team trailed 0-2 in the overall score.
On the second day of competition, Sun Fajing and Tergele paired up to take on the Romanian duo Cornea/Pavel in a doubles match. The Chinese duo emerged victorious, winning 6-4, 6-4, and securing the team’s first point. Buyun Chaoket then took to the court again, defeating Boytan 6-3, 7-6 (3), and tying the score. However, in the fifth match, Tergele, who played two matches in one day, lost to Cretu 6-3, 3-6, 3-6, ultimately sealing the team’s fate.
The Davis Cup is a prestigious men’s tennis team competition organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), bringing together top teams from around the world to compete for the coveted title.
