Minnesota Extends Dawn Plitzuweit’s Basketball Contract

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents approved a two-year contract extension for women’s basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit on Thursday. This extension secures her position through the 2031 season.
Plitzuweit, now a key figure in Minnesota women’s basketball, has compiled a 47-29 record over two seasons. This includes a 13-23 mark in Big Ten Conference play. The Golden Gophers, despite missing leading scorer Mara Braun for a significant portion of the season due to foot injuries, clinched the WBIT championship in Plitzuweit’s second year. The team last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2018.
The new contract includes a raise,increasing Plitzuweit’s base salary to $900,000 for the 2025-26 season,wiht annual increases of $30,000.This puts her in the middle of the pack among Big Ten coaches. The Big Ten sent 12 teams to the NCAA tournament this year,highlighting the conference’s competitive landscape.
