D.C. Police Investigate Recent⁣ Shootings Amid ⁤Rising Gun Violence

⁢ Updated May ‌28, 2025

Washington, D.C., police are actively investigating a series of shootings⁤ across the District, including an incident early Tuesday in the Logan Circle area. The recent surge in gun ⁣violence⁣ has prompted ‍increased concern and police⁤ intervention.

according ⁣to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), a‌ shooting occurred on Pitts Place Southeast following an argument between a young woman and her neighbour.‌ Surveillance footage ‍showed the woman being chased ⁢and shot by two individuals. Authorities⁣ have as arrested two men‍ in connection with the incident and have blocked off the ‌victim’s house and another residence to search for evidence.

The recent shootings are part ⁢of a troubling trend in the District. A man in Columbia Heights ‍was killed ‍by a stray bullet that entered‌ his apartment. In Congress Heights, ‍a former⁤ advisory Neighborhood ⁤Commission (ANC) commissioner was ⁤injured in a triple shooting. Additionally,⁤ two teenage boys where killed in a separate triple shooting in Washington Highlands. The gun violence has deeply affected the community.

MPD⁣ Chief Pamela Smith emphasized ‌the need for better⁢ conflict resolution. “We have to ⁤resolve ‍conflict much better than ⁤the way ⁤we’re resolving conflict,” Smith said. “Introducing firearms to resolve⁢ issues and matters is just⁢ not the way ⁢to go.”

Data from D.C. police indicates there have been 13 deadly shootings in the past two weeks, resulting in 15 ‌fatalities. Many of these⁢ crimes remain unsolved, including the stray bullet shooting that killed Jose Carcamo, who was visiting with his mother for Mother’s Day.

Another man⁤ was found fatally ‍shot ⁢early tuesday on 14th Street. Residents are expressing growing ‍frustration and fear. “It’s just sad,”‌ said Mary Jackson, a local resident. “The only thing I can‌ do is pray for them. I just pray for things to get better.”

One man,who wished to remain ‌anonymous, said he often feels unsafe⁤ walking ⁤to work on ⁢14th Street during ‍the early morning hours.

The MPD plans to thoroughly investigate⁢ each case, acknowledging the grief of the⁢ 15 families who have lost loved ones‌ to crime.

What’s next

In the⁣ coming days, police will return to affected neighborhoods with violence interrupters⁣ and other resources, aiming to build connections ⁤with residents and de-escalate conflicts before they escalate to violence.
