Blizzard is translating its World of Warcraft MMORPG into a tabletop experience with the release of D&D: World of Warcraft on November 17, according to GameSpot. The expansion brings the Azeroth setting to Dungeons & Dragons, introducing new races, classes, and mechanics that mirror the digital game’s systems.

Early access for the tabletop expansion begins November 3. The release includes tools for dungeon masters to build Azeroth-based campaigns, featuring 13 playable WoW classes, six additional subclasses, three modified classes, and over 40 class specializations, GameSpot reports.

New Species and Faction Mechanics in Azeroth

The expansion adds 11 specific WoW species to the D&D framework, including trolls, forsaken, draenei, and tauren. It also introduces specific rules for existing D&D races such as orcs, elves, goblins, dwarves, and humans, according to Blizzard.

Blizzard stated in its announcement that these species provide various histories and perspectives for adventures. The choice of species can also determine a player’s starting Renown Score with specific Azeroth factions, meaning the player’s allegiance to the Horde or the Alliance is integrated into their character origin.

Combat, Gear, and Profession Systems

D&D: World of Warcraft introduces over 60 new spells and 25 new magic items, which include companion creatures and mounts, GameSpot reports. The system also incorporates 10 WoW professions, allowing players to craft gear and items during downtime.

The tabletop version replicates the MMO’s social and progression systems through 25 different factions. Players can increase their Renown with these groups to earn specific perks and rewards, mimicking the grind found in the digital game.

Dungeons and the Icecrown Citadel Map

The expansion includes 50 new monsters and 30 dungeon bosses. Seven iconic locations from the MMORPG are playable as dungeons, including the Scarlet Monastery, Onyxia’s Lair, and the Deadmines, according to GameSpot.

Players can also purchase an optional Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack. This content is designed for characters between levels 16 and 20, guiding them from the lower spire of the citadel to a final confrontation with the Lich King at the Frozen Throne.

Digital Rewards and Pricing

Blizzard is offering in-game rewards for players who preorder specific versions of the tabletop expansion. The D&D: World of Warcraft Ultimate Bundle and the Collector’s Edition unlock D&D-themed items within the World of Warcraft MMO, including a Gazer pet, a Mimic chest toy, Mimic chest housing decor, and a Black Dragon mount.

The official D&D Beyond website lists the $80 physical and digital combo edition as the lowest-cost option for obtaining these in-game items.

In separate developments, Blizzard announced it will add the character Jimothy to the MMORPG in the next update. Additionally, the company recently terminated an employee who allegedly assisted players in cheating during a Mythic+ dungeon, according to GameSpot.
