DDG and halle Bailey Fight Over Son’s Custody, Seek Restraining Orders
Updated June 7, 2025
Rapper DDG and singer Halle Bailey are engaged in a contentious custody dispute over their son, Halo, with both parties seeking domestic violence restraining orders. The legal battle includes allegations of emotional distress, threats and controlling behavior.
DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., initially sought to prevent bailey from taking their son, who will be 2 in October, out of the country. He claimed Bailey posed a kidnapping risk, specifically mentioning a potential trip to Italy. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge denied this request, scheduling a hearing for later this month.
The rapper’s filing echoed some of the allegations Bailey made in her mid-May restraining order request. DDG’s mother, Tonya Granberry, and her fiancé, George Charlston, claimed they discovered Apple AirTags hidden in DDG’s vehicles and Halo’s diaper bag, allegedly placed by Bailey. DDG’s team also raised concerns about bailey’s emotional state, citing “emotional instability and coercive control,” along with “repeated threats of suicide and self-harm.”
Text message exchanges included in DDG’s filing show bailey sending numerous messages, including claims of self-harm. In one instance, Bailey allegedly texted, “I WANT TO DIE AS OF YOU!!!”
Bailey accused DDG of physical altercations, including an incident where she claims he slammed her head into a steering wheel. DDG denies this, stating she hit the steering wheel while attempting to strike him. Bailey also alleges DDG frequently disparages her on social media, leading to online harassment.
“He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. Consequently, I then receive threats and hate on social media,” Bailey stated in her filing.
DDG responded to the public attention on X, formerly Twitter, comparing his experience to that of Michael Jackson. The comparison drew criticism from users who felt it was an overstatement.
