De Laurentiis, addressing the crowd, reflected on Napoli’s recent successes and the city’s enduring spirit. “For 14 years, we have worn the mantle of European football,” he declared. “We had a arduous year, wich I will discuss in more detail in a few years when I have fully processed it. But Napoli is a unique reality. Just think, right here in Portici, on October 3rd, 1839, the first railway in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, and the first in the Italian peninsula, was inaugurated. For me, it is indeed an honor to be in this extraordinary location.”
The president emphasized the importance of the event, marking the first large-scale gathering since the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are committed to promoting the city and the region,” he stated. “I am pleased to see the mayor and the governor seated together. While there might potentially be some differences between the municipality and the region, I urge these two gentlemen to work together to secure what Naples deserves from the Italian state.”
De Laurentiis raised a toast to the holiday season, highlighting the growing bond between the city and its beloved football club. “There is an increasingly strong connection between Naples and Napoli,” he said. “We are experiencing a renaissance together. The team even took their official photo at the Chiaia train station. Our beloved Napoli has grown both on and off the field, showcasing the excellence of our city. This journey began twenty years ago.”
He offered warm words for the team, led by captain Lorenzo Insigne, and manager Luciano Spalletti, who “has embraced our project.”
