Russian Ambassador’s Convoy Hit by Mine in Pakistan
A convoy carrying Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev and other diplomats was hit by a mine and exploded on September 22.
The incident occurred while Ambassador Khorev was traveling with a delegation of ambassadors from several other countries, who had attended a tourism forum organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Several police officers were injured in the explosion, after a vehicle in the convoy hit a mine, the Russian embassy reported. Fortunately, no diplomats were hurt in the blast.
Pakistani authorities have confirmed the incident, stating that all members of the delegation have been safely evacuated from the site of the explosion.
“All ambassadors remained safe during the attack, and were moved to safety before departing for Islamabad,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammad Ali Gandapur.
However, Zahidullah Khan, a police officer in Swat district, reported that one officer was killed and four others were injured in the blast. “The leading team of the convoy was hit by a roadside bomb,” Khan said.
